A huge cannabis factory was discovered inside an industrial unit in Birmingham.

Police saw a gang attempting to break into the unit in Eyre Street, Ladywood, on Monday, December 28 – but as officers approached, the group fled in two cars.

Around 1,000 cannabis plants were found inside and cops also recovered weapons and further plants from a car nearby.

West Midlands Police’s force support unit tweeted a picture from the scene – which can be viewed above – showing rows of illicit plants growing under artificial lights.

A spokesman for the force said: “Around 1,000 plants have been seized after a suspected cannabis factory was discovered in Eyre Street, Birmingham, this morning.

Officers on patrol came across a group of people attempting to break into an industrial unit. The group fled in two cars as officers approached.

Cannabis plants were found inside and officers also recovered weapons and further plants from a car nearby.

Enquiries continue and anyone with information is asked to contact us.”
