ST. PETERSBURG, Florida — A St. Petersburg, Fla., man was arrested Saturday for giving away a different type of Christmas tree after police allegedly caught him passing out bags of marijuana.
Richard Spurrier, 67, was distributing the marijuana to random passersby in the city’s downtown area, according to witnesses.
“Yeah he was like, ‘Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas,’ and he was like, the cop came right up behind him and was like, ‘What are you doing?’” Shannon Robinson told Bay News 9.
“When he took the marijuana after they arrested him, in his bag he had scales and like, another big bag of marijuana as well,” she added.
According to an arrest affidavit, Spurrier handed out the bags of weed “because it’s Christmas.”
Police added that the man had a hidden sword in a cane when he was arrested.
Spurrier was charged with marijuana possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia, but was released from jail shortly after his arrest.
