Albanian 'gardener' caught working in £65,000 Swansea cannabis farmPosted by On

A police raid discovered a large cannabis factory in a three-storey house in Swansea, a court heard.

Officers found 250 plants in the premises, along with an Albanian gardener who was tending the plants.

The potential street value of the crop was put at more than £65,000.

It then emerged the gardener, Albanian national Dejan Sula, had been in the UK illegally for four years after paying people smugglers to get him into the country.

Swansea Crown Court heard on May 3 this year police executed a search warrant at a rented house in the North Hill area of the city.

Robin Rouch, prosecuting, said police found five rooms in the property had been turned over to the production of cannabis in what was described as a “relatively sophisticated operation”.

In the kitchen of the North Hill Road house, police found 25-year-old Sula.

The court heard in total there were 251 plants growing at the address, and their yield was estimated to be worth up to £65,500 when sold as street deals.
