Yet another man has appeared in court following a spate of Albanian nationals being caught looking after cannabis farms at houses in Coventry.

Besim Sefa was looking after the set-up at a home in Longford to pay off his debts to the “not pleasant people” who had brought him to this country and then threatened him when he couldn’t pay back what he owed them.

The cannabis farm was found when police raided a property in Windmill Road in May this year, which had a reinforced metal door at the front.

After gaining entry through the back of the house, officers found a full-blown cannabis factory, with 138 plants being grown in three rooms.

No value was given for the crop but, based on recent similar cases, when mature it could have been worth up to £115,000 once it was divided into street deals.

Sefa, 28, of no fixed address, was jailed for just six months after pleading guilty at Warwick Crown Court to being concerned in the production of cannabis.

Prosecutor Hilda Robinson-Murphy said that on May 19 the police turned up to execute a warrant at the house in Windmill Road, Longford.

Once inside they found an upstairs box room was being used for accommodation, and in the room the police found the keys to a BMW which was parked outside – and in the car was Sefa’s Albanian identity card.
