The Oswego Planning and Zoning Commission Thursday will consider a special use permit for a proposed second marijuana dispensary in the village, a request that comes soon after the group recommended approval of a similar permit for a group looking to place the first dispensary in town.

The commission will meet at 7 p.m. at Oswego Village Hall, 100 Parkers Mill.

The second marijuana dispensary is proposed in a former day care center at 260 N. Merchants Drive in Oswego.

Catalyst Cannabis of Oswego is seeking a permit to operate a marijuana dispensary in an approximately 4,600-square-foot commercial space that has been vacant for several years, according to village documents.

“The existing building has sustained some water damage and would require extensive rehab for the building to meet the code requirements for a commercial retail use,” Oswego Development Services Director Rod Zenner said in a report to the village’s planning commissioners.

The applicant is planning to make the necessary improvements to meet village and state code requirements, he said.

The proposed use is consistent with surrounding commercial services, Zenner said.

Catalyst currently owns and operates nine retail marijuana dispensaries in the Southern California region, according to the company’s application. They plan to have 10 employees and operate from the hours of 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the proposed Oswego location.
