A central Auckland dairy has been ramraided for the third time this year, causing around $40,000 to $50,000 in damages, according to the owner.
Police responded to a report of a burglary at a dairy on Halsey St in the CBD at about 12.45am on Monday.
“It is understood a vehicle has been used to break into the store before a group of offenders went in. They were interrupted by a member of the public, and left in the same vehicle,” a police spokesperson said.
Adel al Omoush, owner of Wynyard Mart, said he felt unsafe and worried after the burglary.
“They drove in, broke the glass, my alarm went off and scared them away. They didn’t take anything but the damage is very, very bad.
“Police were there, all my neighbours, and people were yelling,” he said.
Al Omoush upgraded his security system after repeated robberies and got an alert as soon the store alarm system went off.
“I called the police and then speed to get there,” he said.
Al Omoush used to own four convenience stores across the city – now he’s down to just one in Wynyard Quarter.
“Nothing is safe now. It’s my income gone. I have my mortgage, I have to run my business, but I don’t know what will happen,” he said.
Al Omoush said he owned the Wynyard Mart for over a decade, but over crime in the are has only “gotten worse in the last year”.
