BOC intercepts P16.8M worth of high-grade marijuana hidden inside a balikbayan box
Agents of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized around P16.8 million worth of high-grade marijuana after they intercepted a balikbayan box at the Pair Cargo Warehouse in Pasay City.
In a statement, the BOC said the ensuing controlled delivery operation also resulted in the arrest of the consignee in Antipolo City, Rizal on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The balikbayan box, according to the BOC, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from California, USA which was declared as personal effects.
“However, upon x-ray screening and physical Customs examination, it was found to contain 12,000 grams of dried leaves,” the BOC statement read.

The laboratory testing conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) revealed that the substance was high-grade marijuana or kush, a dangerous drug as per Republic Act (RA) 9165, also known as the Anti-illegal Drugs Act.
The arrested claimant is currently undergoing custodial investigation of PDEA for initiation of the corresponding inquest proceedings for violation of RA 9165 and RA 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
