Mike Tyson has admitted to smoking cannabis before his boxing return against Roy Jones Jr.

Tyson and Jones Jr. slugged out a controversial draw, with many believing Tyson dominated almost every round.

However, both fighters were content with their performances after the eight-round exhibition fight considering their age.

Speaking after the fight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Tyson was open about smoking ahead of the bout, saying “I just have to smoke”.

“Absolutely yes … Listen, I can’t stop smoking,” Tyson, 54, told reporters after his first fight in 15 years, according to USA Today.

“I smoked during fights. I just have to smoke, I’m sorry. I’m a smoker … I smoke every day. I never stopped smoking.”

The former heavyweight champ said he stopped using cocaine almost three years ago but has continued smoking marijuana.

Both fighters were tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association for performance enhancing drugs ahead of the fight, but cannabis is not a banned substance.

Recreational cannabis use has been legal in the state of California since late 2016.

“It’s just who I am,” Tyson added. “It has no effect on me from a negative standpoint.
