The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has received an application for a third cannabis retail store in Burlington called the Hunny Pot Cannabis Store. The proposed location at 1505 Guelph Line, Unit 3-4 is kitty corner to MM Robinson High School. Members of the public are now able to submit their comments on the location online at www.agco.ca/iAGCO until Nov. 14.
Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward said that while the city has opted into retail marijuana sales this proposal is in opposition to local guidelines.
“While we learn from the launch of this new industry and watch it evolve, we have established our own local guidelines for where we would like to see the locations of these stores and their proximity to sensitive land uses, one of which is being 500 metres away from any school. The Hunny Pot does not meet that requirement and we will therefore not be supporting it in our comments to the AGCO,” said Meed Ward.
Burlington currently has two operating cannabis stores authorized by the AGCO. Three more applications are in progress, one of which is the Hunny Pot Cannabis Store.
