Public discussion concluded the Burr Oak Township Board meeting Monday regarding marijuana facilities, a topic whose main proponent said he assumed would be included on the agenda.
Monday’s meeting was switched to a phone-call format because of recent COVID-19 mandates that restrict in-person attendance.
Supervisor George Letts apologized for the need to switch to a virtual meeting. All board members, as well as Lance Thornton, township attorney and assessor Dale Hutson, were in virtual attendance.
Matt Craven told the board he has gathered more than 70 signatures of Burr Oak Township residents to demonstrate support for medical/adult-use marijuana-based businesses in the township. Craven said he had asked township officials to place the topic on the agenda for further discussion, after the township voted 4-1 in January 2019 to opt out of a recreational marijuana establishment ordinance.
