Cannabis cookies leave women unconsciousPosted by On

Five women have been found unconscious in a house in South Australia’s southeast after eating cannabis-laced cookies, with a sixth woman ill but able to call for help.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the home in Millicent on Saturday night.

All six women were taken to the Millicent Hospital for treatment.

“When five people lose consciousness because of something they’ve consumed it is alarming,” Superintendent Phil Hoff said.

“Our priority was to establish if these cookies had been further distributed to ensure no-one else was at risk, thankfully it appears not.

“Illicit substances are illicit for a reason. This is a timely message to the community to make better choices.”

Supt Hoff said investigations were continuing, including scientific analysis of the cookies.

The women were cautioned for failing to comply with COVID-19 directions during SA’s short-lived statewide lockdown.

Police also searched the home of a 24-year-old Millicent man where they found cannabis and drug-related equipment.

He was reported for supplying a controlled drug and may be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
