Cannabis farms worth over £1m shut down by police at properties in MiddlesbroughPosted by On

Two cannabis farms in Middlesbrough, worth over £1m, have been shut down by police.

Officers working on a month-long operation to tackle serious organised crime across Teesside, brought down the drugs operations this week.

On Monday evening, response and neighbourhood officers attended a property on Borough Road where they found an established cannabis farm over three floors.

The farm is believed to be worth around £750,000.

Then a farm at Coltman Street was discovered on Tuesday after officers followed-up reports of a strong smell of cannabis.

After entering the property, the police officers found cannabis believed to be worth around £400,000.

Cleveland Police said no arrests have been made but inquiries are ongoing.

Neighbourhood Sergeant John Sproson said: “We are extremely pleased to have located these cannabis farms and stopped these drugs from potentially getting onto the streets of Middlesbrough.

“Organised criminal gangs often use properties like these to exploit people into growing these farms for their own financial gain, and I am pleased that the revenue has also been stopped from being added to their criminal gains.

“Let this stand as a warning to anyone who thinks that Middlesbrough is the place to come to grow and sell drugs. It won’t be tolerated and we are proactively targeting those involved in drugs activity.”
