Police are investigating a flat fire on a busy city road after a ‘cannabis set-up was uncovered inside’.

Grey plumes of smoke could be seen sweeping across Walsall Road in Perry Barr during this morning’s rush hour (Mon, Dec 7).

One passenger captured the aftermath of the incident from a passing vehicle as four fire engines battled the blaze at around 8am.

Around twenty firefighters were at the scene, alongside a marked police car, near to the row of shops.

No one was injured in the fire, but officers from West Midlands Police said they discovered a cannabis set-up within the property.

Officers have urged anyone with information to come forward as they continue to probe the cause of the blaze.

A statement from the force read: “We are investigating the cause of a flat fire in Walsall Road, Perry Barr this morning just after 7.30am.

“No-one was injured, but a cannabis set-up was found inside the property.

“Anyone with information can contact us via Live Chat on our website or call 101 quoting log 523 of 7/12.”

West Midlands Fire Service confirmed they had sent four fire crews, but said it was a police-led incident.
