A less than lethal dose can still result in major distress for your pet, including seizures and coma.Pets can feel the effects within 30 minutes. Milder side effects include spacing out and knocking into furniture. More serious signs include tremors, irregular heartbeat, vomiting, agitation and peeing on themselves.Many edibles are made with chocolate, which is toxic to dogs.A veterinarian said there is a short window of time after your pet has consumed cannabis where you can take your pet to the emergency room and possibly prevent some side effects. “They may be able to induce vomiting,” said Dr. Phiippa Pavia. “That might actually be a treatment before they’ve had an opportunity to absorb all of the drug to actually get them to vomit it up under a controlled environment where they can make sure that they’re not at risk for aspiration.” She also said cannabis exposure usually affects more dogs than cats. If you’re concerned, call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 or get medical treatment.
