With many pet owners as customers, a Chatham cannabis store has decided to collect funds for the agency in charge of a local animal shelter.
The We Store, which was the first legal cannabis dispensary to open in Chatham-Kent, is holding a fundraiser for Pet and Animal Wildlife Rescue. The store will match all donations received until Dec. 15.
Customers can drop their donations into a collection box while shopping for cannabis products.
The retail location at 427 St. Clair Street sees pet owners every day and “encourages customers to bring in their furry companions,” a news release said.
“Animals are very important to us,” general manager Moe Zahid said in the release. “Customers bring their pets in here all the time. Because we’re a very pet friendly organization, I immediately thought of supporting Pet and Wildlife Rescue.”
PAWR is contracted by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent to animal control and pound services. It is in charge of the animal shelter at 405 Park Ave. E. in Chatham.
The fundraiser started Nov. 13.
