Carthage council learns of Board of Appeals suggestion for two medical cannabis facilities | Daily DemocratPosted by On

CARTHAGE, Ill. – During the Carthage City Council regular meeting held Tuesday, March 23, mayor Jim Nightingale notified the council that a Board of Appeals meeting was held regarding facilities for medical cannabis.

The Board of Appeals suggested that no more than two facilities be allowed for medical cannabis. These facilities must be located on the West, East or South side of the square and that the facilities must be more than 500 feet from any school, daycare or recreational park. No action was taken on the information.

Ken Coffman addressed the council about vacating the 180 feet on the west end of Fairmont Ave. He has signature’s from all adjoining land owners that states they agree with the closure. After some discussion, the council voted to approve Coffman’s request.

City attorney Stan Tucker is continuing work on cleaning up properties in Carthage.

Alderman Randy Fleming reported that the July 4th Committee is asking permission to hold a parade with additional festivities and fireworks on July 4th. The parade is planned to start at 1:00 p.m. The council approved the request.

Alderman Gary Smith reported to the council that the street department damaged a trashcan on the courthouse lawn. This trashcan is owned by the county and the city needs to replace it. City clerk Roberts has found a replacement trashcan for the…
