U.S. customs officers seized more than $2 million worth of meth, fentanyl and other drugs, while detaining 25 fugitives during a busy week at El Paso ports of entry, officials said.
Officers seized more than 83 pounds of cocaine, 7 pounds of fentanyl, 72 pounds of methamphetamine and 107 pounds of marijuana last week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said.
The drugs have a street value of more than $2 million, officials said.
“Our CBP officers continue to secure our borders and safeguard our communities by stopping these dangerous drugs from coming into our county, and by working closely with law enforcement agencies to bring fugitives to justice,” CBP El Paso Director of Field Operations Hector A. Mancha said in a statement.
The first seizure happened Sept. 7 when a 30-year-old man, who is a U.S. citizen, attempted to cross the Bridge of the Americas border crossing in a vehicle, officials said.
Officers discovered about 28 pounds of cocaine hidden in the cargo area of the vehicle.
The next day, an 18-year-old man, who also is a U.S. citizen, was detained after officers found more than 6 pounds of methamphetamine and 7 pounds of fentanyl hidden in his vehicle, officials said.
Officers also seized 57 pounds of methamphetamine Friday after a 24-year-old man, who also is U.S. citizen, attempted to cross the drug into the U.S. at the Paso del Norte international bridge, officials said.
