  • A Connecticut Police K9 unit helped uncover 420 pounds of marijuana hidden inside of a U-Haul truck on Friday 
  • The cannabis was stored in freeze dried bags and concealed in large cardboard moving boxes
  • The two occupants of the vehicle, who both hail from Los Angeles, have now been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell
  • The street value of the haul is estimated to be around $2.1 million  

A K9 unit has been credited with sniffing out 420 pounds of marijuana concealed in a truck driving through Connecticut. 

The clever dogs made the discovery on Friday, after Connecticut State Troopers pulled over the vehicle while it was travelling southbound on the I-95 through the affluent town of Darien.

The occupants of the vehicle, Vahe Manjikian, 23, and Kevin Conrado, 27, have both been charged possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

The pair, who both hail from Los Angeles, are each being held on a $100,000 bond. It’s unclear whether either of them has an attorney. 

According to PennLive, ‘a pure, high-grade cannabis can fetch as much as $5,000-6,000 a pound at the retail level’, meaning that he haul the K9 unit uncovered could be worth around $2.1 million.   

The recreational use of cannabis is illegal in Connecticut. 

After the bust, the Connecticut State Police took to Twitter to share a snap of the mounds of marijuana, which was wrapped in freeze dried bags and stored in six large moving boxes.

Four of the adorable dogs from the K9 unit were pictured posing in front of the loot. 

Beneath the image, the police wrote: ‘Troopers from Troop G stopped a truck on I-95 in Darien. When something didn’t smell right, the big dogs were called in,’ the tweet read. 

‘Narcotic detection K9’s alerted on the truck & it was searched finding 420lbs of marijuana. Both operator & passenger were arrested. Great job to the Troopers.’ 

The cute pups won the praise of several followers, with one writing: ‘Good job, pawfficers!’
