BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Members of the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop last week in the 11000 block of N Harrells Ferry Rd.

A Dodge Avenger driven by Jimmy Veal, 32, of Baton Rouge, was stopped due to alleged traffic violations.

As Veal rolled down a window, the deputy “could smell the strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside the car,” according to the affidavit.

Veal confessed to having marijauna in the vehicle.

The 32 year-old was detained and a subsequent search of Veal and the vehicle uncovered the items listed below:

  • 2.2. grams of marijuana
  • 14 dosage units of pressed fentanyl
  • 9 dosage units of temazepam 30mg
  • Digital scale
  • Clear plastic baggies
  • Rifle magazine
  • Smith and Wesson SD9VE handgun containing 12 live rounds of 9mm ammunition

The Baton Rouge man claimed that the vehicle did not belong to him and it was eventually turned over to its owner.

Further investigation found that Jimmy Veal was a convicted felon.

The 32-year-old was sentenced for Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon in March of 2021.

Prior to being booked into prison, something allegedly happened on the way to the central substation.

Deputies noticed that Veal was not sitting still and questioned the Baton Rouge man.

The affidavit states that Veal admitted to dropping something inside the law enforcement vehicle.
