Cops raid 6 marijuana plantations in Benguet

Government law enforcement agencies have stepped up the campaign against marijuana in the country after the recent assessments revealed that it is now the dominant illegal drugs in the country.

On Saturday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said six more marijuana plantations were raided in Benguet after authorities were able to track down their locations after several days of intelligence build-up.

PNP chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said some P4.2 million worth of marijuana were seized during the series of operations on Friday, March 25.

He said more or less 12,100 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants and more or less 15,000 grams of dried marijuana stalks planted in six marijuana plantation sites were seized.

“The six marijuana plantations cover an estimated combined total land area of 1,645 square meters,” said Carlos.

He said they were located in Sitio Lawed and Sitio Bekes, Tacadang, Kibungan, Benguet.

“The seized marijuana were burned on site. No cultivator, however, was apprehended during the operation,” said Carlos.

Undersecretary Wilkins Villanueva, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), said marijuana is now the drug of choice in the country based on the assessment of the Dangerous Drugs Board.
