The legalisation of the Cultivation of marijuana in Thailand made it the first country in Asia to decriminalise cannabis for medical purposes, but it is said that penalties of a 3-month sentence and 25,000 Thai baht ($780) will still be applied to those who will get high using it as a drug, said Thai Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Mr Anutin said that people can now register with the government to grow cannabis for household use.  Whereas, to produce products from cannabis one must need a government approved licence. Also, the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content of their products must not exceed 0.2% by weight. If the THC content will be higher it will then be considered a narcotic substance.

According to the health minister, 10 million seedlings have already been distributed in the country which is sculpted to make the country into a weed wonderland. Uruguay and Canada, are the only two countries that have legalised the cultivation of marijuana.

“We should know how to use cannabis,” Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand and also the Minister of Public Health, Anutin Charnvirakul, the country’s said recently, “If we have the right awareness, cannabis is like gold, something valuable, and should be promoted.”

But he added, “We will have additional Ministry of Health Notifications, by the Department of Health. If it causes nuisances, we can use that law to stop people from smoking.”
