Dad avoids jail for growing cannabis plants worth up to £26,000 in WorplesdonPosted by On

A 40-year-old father-of-two has avoided jail after pleading guilty to growing thousands of pounds worth of cannabis.

Glyn Jones was caught in August 2017 growing 66 cannabis plants worth a total of between £10,000 and £26,000 at an address in Worplesdon , but wasn’t charged until January 2019.

He initially told police it had been just for himself and some friends, but later claimed he had been growing the cannabis under duress before eventually pleading guilty to producing cannabis in July 2019.

Passing sentence at Guildford Crown Court on Wednesday (August 7), Judge Robert Fraser told Jones, who was homeless but had recently found somewhere to live in Kingston, that under normal circumstances he would be sending him to prison but had been persuaded to give Jones a last chance due to signs he was working towards rehabilitation.
