High Haven Dispensary, LLC is locating a marijuana dispensary at the Darien Plaza, 8131 Cass Avenue, Mayor Joseph A. Marchese announced this week.

High Haven, a female-led, minority owned, and social equity cannabis company, has officially secured five conditional licenses in Illinois to operate adult use cannabis dispensaries, according to a news release.

“We are thrilled to have found this excellent business location in the wonderful City of Darien. High Haven doesn’t just exist to sell cannabis. We’re making the world a better place to work, live and play for everyone by focusing on crafting the best customer and employee experience we can” Mahja Sulemanjee-Bortocek, CEO of High Haven, said in a statement.

Marchese said Darien has a strong business community with a variety of businesses and welcomed High Haven.

“Their business model promises to create a culture where compassion, respect, and trust between customers and employees are a priority,” Marchese said in a statement.

The Darien City Council approved an ordinance revision in December of 2019 that permits one marijuana dispensary to operate in the community, according to the release. The site chosen by High Haven is a permitted use with no further City Council action required. High Haven anticipates opening late spring.
