MENIFEE (CNS) – A fire next to a Menifee home culminated in authorities uncovering an indoor marijuana grow where more than 450 plants were being cultivated and nearly 200 pounds of processed cannabis was stored, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Tinker said the blaze in the 25000 block of Antelope Road, near Mapes Road, erupted about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and spread “dangerously close” to the single-story residence, which deputies believed was occupied.
Law enforcement officers went into the house to ensure it was evacuated and immediately spotted “large quantities of cultivated marijuana and numerous marijuana plants,” Tinker said.
County fire personnel contained the two-acre blaze a short time later. The home was not damaged, he said.
A search warrant was served at the property, resulting in 467 cannabis plants being confiscated, along with 193 pounds of processed weed and 255 pounds of unprocessed product, he said.
“These items were estimated as being worth of over $300,000,” Tinker said.
No suspects have been identified in connection with the illegal grow.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Perris station at 951-210-1000.
