Drug mule jailed for 16 months after being found with 1.3kg of cannabisPosted by On

A drugs courier who drove to East Kilbride from England with a consignment of cannabis has been jailed for 16 months.

Kynan Dawes swore and told police officers who stopped his car: “I’m going to owe 15 grand now.”

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard this week that 1.3kg of the drug, with a street value of nearly £13,000, was seized in East Kilbride.

Dawes, 28, of Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis on February 12 last year.

Mairi-Clare McMillan, prosecuting, said plain clothes officers were in a car park in Murray Square, shortly after 7pm.

She told the court: “They observed the accused in the driver’s seat of a car. He was the only occupant.

“He appeared startled and shortly after he began to drive out of the street. The police officers followed and the accused’s vehicle stopped.

“He put his hand in the air, swore and said he had a kilo and a half of cannabis in the car.”

Dawes was searched and £130 was taken from him, whilst Cannabis was found in three separate bags in the front passenger footwell.

He protested to the officers: “I’m not a dealer, I’m just delivering. I’m going to owe 15 grand now.”

Defence solicitor Simon Hutchison produced a reference from his client’s employer and suggested the dad-of-one could be spared prison.

Mr Hutchison told the court: “There is no significant previous offending, certainly nothing drug-related.
