Firefighters discovered a huge cannabis factory when dealing with a fire in Swansea, it has been revealed.

Emergency services attended the blaze at Sterry Road, Gowerton early on Friday, October 23.

But when entering the vacant building to fight the flames, firefighters discovered 700 cannabis plants inside the vacant building, a former pub and gym.

They informed police who attended the scene and recovered the huge amount of plants. An investigation is now underway.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: “We were alerted by the fire brigade to a fire in Sterry Road at about 8.50am on October 23.

“On entering the property to extinguish the blaze the firefighters discovered a cannabis factory.

“Officers attended and around 700 plants were recovered.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact 101 quoting occurrence 2000386741.”

A third floor flat at the building had been occupied but was not at the time of the fire.
