A 31-year-old Florida man was arrested Friday following a traffic stop in which he admitted using his tax return money to buy a pound of marijuana.

A 31-year-old Florida man was arrested Friday following a traffic stop in which he admitted to deputies that he used his tax return money to buy a pound of marijuana.

Alexander Rey Rivero of Big Coppitt Key, was charged with possession of marijuana and driving without a valid driver’s license.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office stopped Rivero in an Infinity for driving 35 mph in a 25 mph zone on Calle Tres on Rockland Key at approximately 8:13 p.m.

There was a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle as well as Rivero, deputies said.

Rivero admitted to driving without a valid driver’s license, admitting to possessing the marijuana, described where it was located in the vehicle, and stated he bought the pound of marijuana for $500 using his IRS return.

He was booked into the Monroe County Jail with no bond listed.
