A secret cannabis factory worth £650k has been raided in Walsall.

Police officers spent yesterday (February 27) clearing out the large scale crop made up of 600 plants after discovering it on Friday evening (February 26).

The exact location of the bust is unknown and it is not clear if any arrests have been made in connection with the raid.

In a post on social media, the force said: “Team 3 officers have had a busy day clearing out a large cannabis factory that was found by Team 1 officers yesterday evening.

“Approximately 600 plants, at a value of around £650k has been taken off the streets. Fantastic work by all involved.”

According to West Midlands Police, criminals are using more inventive ways to conceal cannabis grows – not just in rooms, but in the back of shops and even underground.

Cannabis farms are very dangerous places and pose a serious risk of fire. Often the electricity meter has been bypassed and seriously overloaded electrical circuits run close to water-filled pipes.

Plants grown upstairs in a building can also cause floorboards to rot, presenting the danger of collapse.
