The Iyanola Council for the Advancement of Rastafari (ICAR) has written to Saint Lucia’s Minister of National Security Minister, Hermangild Francis, requesting ‘exemption’ to send marijuana to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) as part of a relief supply.
ICAR has been planning a humanitarian mission to the country which is coping with the La Soufrière volcano disaster.
In a letter dated Tuesday, 27th April, 2021, ICAR President Aaron Alexander disclosed local Rastafarians intended to send food, medicines, toiletries, clothing and sanitary products.
But the letter to the minister observed that the Rastafarian nation uses marijuana as its holy sacrament.
In this regard, it noted that Rastafarian brothers and sisters in SVG are in need of the sacrament to give them hope, courage and spiritual upliftment.
“Therefore we write herein to seek exemption from your office for us to depart Saint Lucia with a total of fifty pounds of Cannabis (Marijuana) to take to SVG for use by our beloved brothers and sisters,” ICAR President, Aaron Alexander wrote.
Alexander observed that although murder is a crime, there’s a time when the law allows euthanasia or mercy killing in extremely difficult times in the life of an individual.
“Hence we know that such good grace, tolerance, good will and over standing can come from your esteemed office in granting an exemption to us,” the writer stated.
