Former Knicks player Iman Shumpert was arrested over the weekend after officers at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport allegedly found a “sizable” amount of marijuana in his backpack. According to TMZ, the 32-year-old was asked to stop at the checkpoint on Saturday, July 31, 2022. They found 6.12 ounces of a “green leafy substance” in his backpack, which Shumpert confirmed was marijuana. The substance was additionally verified through official tests.

Shumpert was then put in handcuffs and taken to the airport jail. If proven guilty, he could face up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine if convicted on “state jail felony” charges. The police report also claims Shumpert was in possession of a Glock magazine and 14 and 9mm rounds but not a gun. Shumpert was to fly to Los Angeles at 3 PM to visit his daughter. Though the police told him he would be arrested, he requested them to help him to fly to LA. Marijuana is legal in California while it remains illegal in Texas.
