Mysuru: In what is being touted as the largest cache of narcotics ever seized in Mysuru city, police confiscated 46.6kg of ganja or marijuana in two separate cases, and arrested four individuals in connection with the racket. Meanwhile, a hunt is under way for three others, including two women, in connection with the racket.
In one case, cops apprehended three youngsters, two of whom were from Kodagu and the other from Mysuru, red-handed with 5.6kg of cannabis stashed inside a car on October 22. Meanwhile, a house on CV Road within the limits of Mandi Mohalla police station helped cops seize a cache of 41kg of ganja that was in the house. The officer said that the house belonged to a 25-year-old youngster, who procured the drug, of a very high quality, from North Indian, and Northeaster states, which was then sold for anywhere between Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 per kilo.
A police officer said that marijuana was smuggled in utility vehicles used for ferrying vegetables, fruits, and other such perishable items. “This makes it very difficult for the cops to find them,” he added.
Although police are pleased with having confiscated such a large haul of the drug, the quantity has also raised their hackles. Police are concerned about the network involved in the procurement and sale of drugs, and the parts of the country to which the tentacles of this racket spread.
