IONIA — The Ionia City Council approved its first reading of a proposed ordinance to zone medical marijuana facilities within the city Tuesday.

The vote was 7-2 with Dan Balice, Janice Gustafson, Gordon Kelley, John Milewski, Tom Millard, Troy Waterman and Jeff Winters voting “yes” and Ted Paton and Kim Patrick voting “no.”

A public hearing on the proposed ordinance is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 5 at City Hall. The City Council can decide to vote on the ordinance after the public hearing or can decide to vote at a later time.
