A HOME Office licence has been granted to allow an Island firm to begin cultivating cannabis for research and development purposes on the Isle of Wight.
Based in West Wight, Vecticanna will be one of just a handful of approved locations in the UK allowed to legally cultivate various strains of cannabis.
Vecticanna’s facility, which is fenced, highly secured and monitored, will bring year-round employment opportunities for Islanders, with hopes that the site will eventually employ up to 60 people.
The cultivation has been granted for research and development for the treatment of Fibromyalgia and other conditions related to Neuroinflammation.

Vecticanna hopes the Island can benefit from the pharmaceutical cannabis marketplace growing globally.
A solar array will provide lighting and irrigation to the facility and is a solid structure building allowing no light to escape and help protect the Island’s night sky.
The management team, led by Island resident and Vecticanna CEO Adam Mawer, say they are passionate about the Island and local businesses.
They believe combining the rich agricultural heritage into this emerging marketplace is a surefire recipe for success.
