Two days after recreational cannabis became legal in Canada, one of Quebec’s most-read columnists appeared on TVA Nouvelles to speak of a crisis in Mohawk territory.

Richard Martineau warned of weed being sold freely in Kahnawake, while local police looked the other way. He referred to the South Shore reserve as “like a lawless zone” and jokingly used the term “Indians” throughout the televised segment.
