A knife crime campaigner has been banned from the road for two years after his second conviction for drug driving.
Louis Bamber, 25, was behind the wheel of an Audi A4 on Norton Hill in Runcorn at around noon on Saturday, September 12 last year when a police patrol spotted the car was “producing a lot of smoke”, prosecutor Angela Blackmore told North Cheshire Magistrates’ Court in Warrington today.
Bamber was behind the wheel, and two children were in the back who were not properly restrained with “booster seats appropriate for their age and height”.
Officers arrested him after a positive drug wipe.
Blood samples taken at a police station tested positive for the cannabis compound THC at 5.2 micrograms per litre, more than twice the legal limit of 2 micrograms.
Ms Blackmore said Bamber had one previous conviction for drug driving from February 23, over an incident on June 4 last year.
Ian Waites, defending, pleaded mitigation for his client’s guilty plea to drug driving, which was given this afternoon, and he described problems Bamber has been suffering due to bereavement.
He said Bamber has endured the loss of both parents in recent years, first his father in 2017 and then his mother who died aged 45 in March this year, leaving him the “head of the family” for his younger brother and sister.
