A tip-off to police led to the discovery of 250 cannabis plants in three sheds in rural Canterbury along with more than $100,000 in cash.

Canterbury rural area commander Inspector Peter Cooper said police raided a property in Rangiora on Tuesday after receiving information about a “potential grow”.

Police found 250 cannabis plants in different stages of growth – from mature to seedlings – inside three sheds that had been converted for the “commercial-level” cannabis growing operation. More than $100,000 in cash was also found at the property.

Cooper said a man in his 40s had been charged with cultivating cannabis and possession of cannabis for supply.
