South Carolina is fired up in the debate over medical marijuana legalization.
Proposed legislation has garnered bipartisan support, but there’s still strong opposition.
On Wednesday, Attorney General Alan Wilson, physicians with the South Carolina Medical Association, and law enforcement officials held a press conference to denounce medical cannabis.
“It is the most dangerous drug because it is the most misunderstood drug,” Wilson said.
The press conference and its message infuriated advocates, including Charleston businessman Wesley Donahue. He feels officials missed the mark considering the nation—and the state—is in the middle of a raging opioid crisis.
“It made me very angry to see law enforcement, and especially, it irritated me to see the doctors,” Donahue said.
