Giving and Receiving Ltd. owner Ryan Bartsoff organizes stock Friday afternoon at the store. Bartsoff is hosting a free cannabis infusions and cooking seminar on Dec. 7 at the shop.
A local cannabis store is hoping to help Hatters learn all there is to know about edibles and how to make them properly.
Giving and Receiving Ltd., a locally-owned and operated cannabis shop, is hosting cannabis infusions and cooking seminar on Dec. 7 from 3-5 p.m. at its Second Street downtown location.
“With new edibles coming really soon people won’t just be buying them, but they’ll be making them as well,” said shop owner Ryan Bartsoff. “We’re going to be holding this workshop to be speaking on safety. We’re going to speak on dosage. We’re going to talk about starting slow and working your way up and knowing how to track dosage.
“An important part is knowing how to make a proper extract and decarboxylate your cannabis properly so you can actually be able to receive it.”
Bartsoff says safety is always the top priority.
“We want to be sure everyone is able to do this on their own and in a safe way,” he said.
The workshop is free to attend and Bartsoff says it will not resemble a baking class in any way.
“We know people already have their own recipes for cookies, brownies and rice krispies,” he said. “The workshop is going to focus on the process of taking the plant and correctly turning it into a base product like butter, grape seed oil or MCT oil – it can turn into a large number of things.
“Once you’ve correctly and safely made that base product, you can make whatever you want with it.”
Giving and Receiving was the 13th cannabis store to open in the city and Bartsoff says the ownership group is not in it to get rich.
“We want to do this to help people and to bring awareness to cannabis culture,” he said. “We’re just trying to break even and keep our doors open so we can keep helping people and educating them on cannabis and everything surrounding it.”
Bartsoff says he anticipates the store will be able to sell edibles within the next two to four weeks.
Anyone looking to take part in the course needs to go to the store to sign up or call in to the shop and make contact with Bartsoff.
“I need to know who people are because they need to be over 18,” he said. “Best way is just to come to the shop.”
Giving and Receiving is also asking Hatters to bring in food and toy donations for the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank.
The store’s phone number is 403-529-0157 and it is located at 547 Second Street SE.
