A man is due to appear in court after allegedly attacking a group with a tyre iron in downtown Auckland.
Police said a man was acting “aggressively” towards others around the Britomart area overnight on Saturday.
The man allegedly pulled a tyre iron from his trousers and started “swinging” it at a group, hitting at least one person.
On Sunday, police appealed for information on the alleged attacker.
On Monday, detective senior sergeant Kathy Bostock confirmed a man had now been charged following the appeal for information.
The 23-year-old man was due to appear in Auckland District Court on Monday on charges of assault and intentional damage.
“Police would like to acknowledge members of the public who contacted us as part of our appeal,” Bostock said.
“Police cannot rule out further charges being laid as part of our investigation.”
