Man dies during arrest in Adelaide CBDPosted by On

South Australian Police say a man has died while being arrested in Adelaide’s city centre on Friday night, in what police are calling a death in custody.

Police said they received numerous calls from the public about 9:30pm on Friday night reporting two men fighting on King William Road, near the corner of North Terrace, in Adelaide’s CBD.

Police restrained two men and put them under arrest but, when doing so, officers said one of the men became unresponsive.

Paramedics and police tried to resuscitate the unconscious man, but he died at the scene.

SA Police said the matter has been determined to be a death in police custody.

Officers from the major crime and the ethical and professional standards divisions have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police have asked for any witnesses, including anyone with footage, to contact police.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
