A police operation is underway after a 77-year-old man was shot in Sydney’s CBD.

One shot was fired inside a corporate office on Castlereagh Street, Sydney, just before 1pm today, police have confirmed

The man was being treated for a gunshot wound by NSW Paramedics at the scene before he was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment.

He is in a stable condition.

Another man, aged 79, has been arrested.

Police said they were unaware of the relationship between the victim and the alleged shooter but ruled out any gang-related associations. 

“This is an isolated shooting, we don’t believe it’s connected to any gang warfare or anything like that,” Detective Inspector David El-Badawi said.

Workers inside the office restrained the alleged offender before police arrived, Inspector El-Badawi also said.

The firearm allegedly used has been secured.

A crime scene has been established and the public is advised to avoid the area to allow emergency services access to the site.

Police have advised there is no further ongoing threat to the community.
