Marijuana found in vegetable garden in Nueva Vizcaya, owner apprehended

NUEVA VIZCAYA — A man was caught in the act of visiting a fully grown marijuana plant at a vegetable garden in Brgy. Bonifacio, Quezon in this province on Wednesday, Sept 28.

The office of Col. Dante Abance Lubos, Officer In-Charge of the Nueva Vizcaya Police Provincial Office (NVPPO), identified the suspect as Jayson Binya, 32, and a resident of Purok #3, Sitio Jackpatan, Brgy. Bonifacio, Quezon, Nueva Vizcaya.

Operatives of Quezon Police were conducting an anti-illegal gambling and anti-cockfighting surveillance operation when they learned from an informant that a fully grown marijuana plant was seen at the vegetable garden of a certain Jayson.

Immediately, a coordination was made to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 2 which conducted an operation that led to the arrest of the suspect who was caught in the act of reinforcing the marijuana plant with twigs.

The plant was described to be already having flowering tops more or less nine feet in height.

Police said the value of the confiscated plant is estimated to be around P2,000.

Suspect is now facing charges in violation of Sec. 16, Art. II of RA 9165 (Cultivation or Culture of Plants Classified as Dangerous Drugs or Sources Thereof).
