Hope — Seth and Ashley Haskins met with the Select Board in December asking for an amendment to a town ordinance prohibiting recreational marijuana cultivation.

Seth Haskins explained that the couple runs an indoor medical marijuana growing operation, but they want to change that to a recreational designation.

The change is mostly just a matter of what it is called. He said there is no plan to open a store or engage in processing.

Haskins said he is a nurse and added the company operates seven days per week and employs about two additional people.

He plans to sell the marijuana through a group running a retail operation in Rockland called Botony.

The town previously passed an ordinance that states:

“Retail marijuana establishments, including retail marijuana stores, retail marijuana cultivation facilities, retail marijuana products manufacturing facilities and retail marijuana testing facilities, and retail marijuana social clubs, are expressly prohibited in this municipality.”

The Select Board asked the Haskins to come back to it with information from a similar ordinance in another town that would allow them to see how this could be amended to allow their operation from an agricultural standpoint only. They are not looking to allow any retail stores in the town.

The Haskins agreed to bring that information back to the town.
