City clerk-treasurer assigned to address new applications
IMLAY CITY — The city’s voter-approved marijuana ordinance was a topic for discussion at the Dec. 20 city commission meeting.
Among those present at the meeting was Imlay City Chamber of Commerce Director Chris Bishop, who sought information and guidance from city officials about the city’s newly-adopted marijuana ordinance.
Bishop informed commissioners that as chamber director, she expects to be asked questions pertaining to the ordinance approved by voters in the Nov. 8 election.
“I want to be fully informed in order to answer Chamber members’ questions,” Bishop said.
In response, Imlay City Manager Craig Horton stated that such questions will now be referred to Imlay City Clerk-Treasurer Dawn Sawicki-Franz.
Horton added that the application deadline for individuals and businesses interested in such establishments will be subject to an application period from Jan. 4-13.
New fire equipment
In another matter, new equipment for the Imlay City Fire department was again a topic of discussion at the Dec. 20 meeting.
Fire Chief Rick Horton and Fire Lt. Jeff Marceau were on hand to seek the commission’s approval to spend up to $40,000 on loose equipment for a new fire truck.
Chief Horton and Lt. Marceau opined that it is more cost efficient to enter into an individual purchase order, rather than to purchase the same items separately.
