Nebraska State Senator Anna Wishart announces her plan to introduce another medical marijuana bill in the Unicameral in the next session. In a post on twitter, Senator Wishart says there is growing evidence showing the benefits for reducing seizures and relieving pain. The lawmaker also says it can lower the need for opioid use. “It is past time Nebraskans have access to a safer alternative medicine,” says Senator Wishart in the post. The senator, representing District 27, introduced a medical marijuana bill in 2021. It fell two votes short of the 33 needed to overcome a filibuster. Opponents of the proposal said it’s not medically proven and could do more harm. Advocates also launched two petition campaigns to try to put the issue on the Nov. 8 ballot. Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen says both petitions were about 9,000 signatures short.The next session is set to begin on Jan. 4, 2023.
