Monroe Township group to review marijuana ordinancePosted by On

The first meeting of the newly formed Marihuna Citizens Commitee is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 1 at Monroe Township Hall.

A committee of residents, business owners and elected officials has been selected to discuss the budding marijuana business industry in Monroe Charter Township.

At its Nov. 17 board meeting, the township announced the formation of its Marihuana Citizens Committee.

The group will discuss the township’s marijuana ordinance, which has been the subject of scrutiny and discourse in recent weeks as hearings were held to address businesses’ applications to set up shop in the township.

The committee was selected by Supervisor Alan Barron, who sought to include a mix of those in support of such businesses, those opposed and those seeking to establish such businesses in the township.

“(This) is a diverse group of people who have expressed an interest in participating on the Citizens Committee to study the marijuana ordinance,” he said.

The appointed citizens to the board include: Julie Everly, Vicky Loveland, Tom Allen, Tim Lake, April Ruttenberg, Katybeth Davis, Chelsey Robinson, Eric Redmond, Jon McCarty and Marvin Yono.

According to Barron, all are residents of the township, except for Yono, whose family owns and operates Hi-Lite Fresh Market, 15539 S. Telegraph Rd., which is in the township.
