Motorists left confused at a busy intersection in Polokwane CBDPosted by On

POLOKWANE – Road markings that were recently applied at the busy intersection of Kerk and Jorissen streets in the CBD, cause confusion and may result in serious accidents, while it appears that there is a lack of supervision from the side of the municipality.

“For me, it seems that the markings were just applied without any consideration of the implications thereof,” a motorist remarked.

A week ago, spokesperson for the municipality, Thipa Selala explained that the road markings will be effective once the city’s new rapid public transport system is in operation in those particular streets.

“The scope was implemented in line with the required movement of the Leeto La Polokwane bus service.

The only disjuncture is that the two scopes were supposed to be implemented by two separate service providers and the one service provider’s contract got terminated before the scope of work was completed.

There is supposed to be an upgrade of traffic lights at this intersection.

The bus is supposed to be released first before the rest of the traffic.

The marking for the bus will in the interim be hidden until the traffic lights are upgraded,” Selala said but did not provide a date and the markings were still there on Monday with no indication of the municipality’s intention in terms of resolving the situation.
