BRANCH COUNTY — “Marijuana is the most dangerous drug in America.”
That statement came from Ed Shemelya of the National Marijuana Initiative as he talked Wednesday to elected officials from Branch County and its communities, law enforcement, and those who treat drug abuse.
“The total illicit use of all other drugs combined does not come close to half the admitted marijuana use in this country,” Shemelya said. “What makes it the most dangerous is that it is the most misunderstood drug.”
The officials were there to hear facts about medical marijuana, legal in 37 states, and commercial marijuana, now legal in 10 states including Michigan.
The Branch County Drug Abuse Task Force invited NMI to send in two speakers to dispel misconceptions about marijuana and raise awareness of issues surrounding the drug.
