Recreational marijuana sales officially began late last year, but became available across Lenawee County in 2020.

Morenci dispensary Michigan Supply & Provisions was one of the first shops in the state to offer recreational marijuana, late last year. The first day of sales was an event in and of itself as people came from multiple states to be one of the first few in line.

More shops in Morenci have since added recreational options.

Recreational sales hit Adrian on April 24. Amazing Budz and North Coast Provisions were the first two sellers of recreational marijuana. Four more dispensaries would hop on board in the coming weeks and months.

When sales began, dispensaries were closed to the public and customers could only order online or via phone with curbside pickup or delivery because of the pandemic.

That didn’t hinder sales, though.

Lume Cannabis Co. said sales increased month after month when The Daily Telegram followed up with those in the marijuana industry about sales in August.

At the time, North Coast was averaging 200 customers per day and reported a five-fold increase in business since recreational sales began.

Flower, also called bud, has been a consistent top seller for shops. Edibles have grown in popularity, offering a way to consume THC without the smoke or smell associated with smoking.

With six shops open in Adrian, there’s a good deal of competition….
