A Southwestern Ontario cannabis producer is closing its Strathroy plant next year as the company shifts away from growing pot.
Entourage Health, formerly WeedMD, will shutter its indoor growing facilities in Strathroy and Guelph over the next five months, eliminating roughly 90 jobs, more than a third of its workforce, company spokesperson Catherine Flaman said Dec. 9.
Under a recent supply deal, Gatineau, Que.-based marijuana producer Hexo will supply Entourage with most of its dried cannabis, soft gels, gummies and pre-rolled joints, the companies announced in November.
Entourage chief executive George Scorsis, who wasn’t available for an interview, recently told investors the decision to stop growing pot wasn’t “taken lightly.”
“Regretfully, we realized that given the current cannabis market dynamics of rising costs, and price compression, it is no longer viable for us to grow product we can procure at a fraction of the cost, at scale and with consistent quality,” Scorsis said during the…
